About the event

PITC is offering and facilitating a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Anxiety group, starting at the beginning of November. This group will be virtual, and contain a maximum of 6 participants, with one group facilitator. The group facilitator will be Caroline Marson, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist. This is a closed group, and once enrolled, you must be able to confirm attendance at all groups, which will take place weekly on Fridays from 1:00-2:00pm for 8 consecutive weeks.

Group: CBT for Anxiety

Length of Group: 8 Weeks

Cost: $80+hst per weekly group session

Dates: Friday, November 3rd – Friday, December 22nd, 2023

Time: Weekly on Fridays, from 1:00-2:00pm

Week 1: Confidentiality, Group Rules, Introduction to CBT and Anxiety, and common symptoms of anxiety

Week 2: Looking at avoidance and anxiety, exposure interventions, “cognitive” coping strategies, and “behavioural” coping strategies.

Week 3: Looking at thought distortions, how to challenge negative thoughts, and how to use our values to dictate behaviour.

Week 4: Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance to help cope with anxiety symptoms

Week 5: Intrusive/obsessive thoughts, negative perceptions of self, or always predicting the worst

Week 6: Fight, flight, and freeze responses, and how to cope with this.

Week 7: Mindfulness, practicing flexibility in thinking, and interpersonal effectiveness skills

Week 8: Putting it all together, review of what we’ve learned and how to put it all into practice.
