Samantha Gordon is a warm and highly devoted student psychotherapist with a client-centered and holistic approach to therapy. Sam showcases genuine interest and curiosity in the emotions, feelings, and concerns of her clients.

Her educational background and professional experience are rooted in anti-oppressive, feminist, and culturally informed theoretical frameworks. She highlights the unique lived experiences of her clients while remaining cognizant to the impacts of one’s sociocultural context and cultural identity. By prioritizing client safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship, Sam creates a space for others to share freely without judgement. To Sam, therapeutic change is personal. Although the path to therapeutic change is not always linear, by establishing collaboratively set goals and enhancing self-awareness, she hopes to support her clients in achieving the change they desire.

As an integrative and holistic student therapist, Sam provides the tools best suited for her client’s unique situation. Sam’s ongoing education and professional experience allows her to borrow techniques and interventions from Humanistic Therapy, Existential Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, and more.

Sam’s areas of interest include relationship concerns, struggles with body image, motivation and drive, confidence, trauma, sexual violence, anxiety, depression, and more. With a background working in sexual assault crisis counselling, she understands the importance of placing clients as the experts on their own lives. By emphasizing a strong therapeutic bond with her clients, Sam fosters empowerment and resilience that her clients can harness outside of the therapeutic environment.

Sam is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of British Columbia. She is working towards registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. In her free time, Sam enjoys backcountry camping and having nights out with her girlfriends.

As someone who has benefited from therapy herself, Sam understands the trials and tribulations of finding a therapist who is right for you and the difficulties associated with personal growth. She believes that regardless of where you are on your journey, she can contribute by providing a listening ear, resources, and the commitment necessary to meet your unique needs.
